Why Are We Here? - Obama Rally (35 min)
Last February William, Kamil and I managed to get press credentials c/o rocketboom for Barack Obama’s presidential announcement speech at UIC. He made the initial announcement in Springfield, IL with Chicago the day after & having not seen many candidates previously, we thought it a good idea to come prepared. So I manned the stands from above, William at the small press riser with the 2nd video camera, and Kamil doing his photog thing. Kamil even allegedly told David Gregory off for blocking his shot, NICE.
Then I let the tapes sit for the last 11 months. Given Senator Obama’s recent success in Iowa, I thought it would be fitting to post this for everyone else to see. About halfway in there are some anti-war demonstrators getting booed for interrupting his speech. I was excited at the time to get to see him speak as I voted him into the senate 2 years prior. I was sold on him until last month when Representative Kucinich knocked it out of the park by having the cojones to read Dick Cheney the articles of impeachment. Nevertheless, this is still an enjoyable speech, and if Senator Obama makes it to the white house I will have my own self made piece of history to hang on to.
